Good fabric deserves good care. These simple habits keep colours bright, prevent shrinking and help your suits last for many seasons.
Before stitching: pre-wash natural fabrics
Lawn, cambric, cotton and khaddar can shrink slightly on the first wash. Soak and gently wash them in cold water before stitching, dry in shade, and iron – then hand the fabric to your tailor.
Lawn, cambric and cotton
- Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, with similar colours.
- Turn printed fabrics inside out to protect the print.
- Dry in shade – strong sun fades bright colours.
- Iron on medium–high heat while slightly damp.
Wash & wear
Machine wash cold and hang to dry straight away – it needs little or no ironing, which is the whole point.
Khaddar, karandi and marina
- Hand wash or use a gentle cold cycle; avoid wringing hard.
- Dry flat or on a wide hanger to keep the shape.
- Karandi looks best dry-cleaned, especially when embroidered.
Chiffon and georgette
- Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent, or dry clean.
- Never wring – press water out gently in a towel.
- Iron on low heat with a thin cloth on top.
Raw silk, velvet and embroidered fabric
- Dry clean only.
- Steam velvet instead of pressing it, to protect the pile.
- Store in a breathable cotton bag, away from direct light.
